Biography
Symphonic tradition. New ways of listening.
Guest conductor · Symphonic repertoire · Contemporary music · New audiences
Pere Vicalet (Gata de Gorgos, Alicante, 1987) is a conductor, composer and digital artist whose career connects the great symphonic repertoire, contemporary music and new forms of stage expression.
Trained at the Conservatori Superior de Música de València and the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, he has developed an approach to conducting that combines interpretive rigour, artistic curiosity and a constant search for new ways of communicating through music.
He has conducted more than fifty ensembles and orchestras in several countries. In 2017 he made his debut at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia with the premiere of La Mare dels Peixos, an opera with electronics that led the press to hail him as “the baton of the future”. He was Music Director of the FSMCV Youth Symphonic Band and Principal Guest Conductor of the Col Legno ensemble, with which he championed numerous premieres of contemporary music. This experience has made him a conductor especially versed in repertoire with electronics, audiovisual synchronisation and click-track performance.
His work ranges from the symphonic repertoire to projects exploring the dialogue between orchestra, electronics, club culture and audiovisual creation. His piece Peak in Tanz, premiered by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, investigates the expressive possibilities of percussion, real-time sound processing and orchestral writing. On a different scale, Symphony of Dance, premiered with the Orquesta de Extremadura, brings together symphony orchestra and DJ to draw new audiences into the concert hall.
His projects also include El Guerrer de la Valltorta, a commission from the FSMCV that brought together more than 5,000 musicians and around 100 electronic devices and was recognised with three Guinness World Records. His awards include the Young Talent Award of the Valencian Community and the Miguel Hernández Award for Cultural Innovation.
He is currently Associate Conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica del Café in Colombia and Professor of Music Technology at the Conservatori Superior de Música de València.
His conception of conducting rests on one conviction: tradition is not a limit but a living territory from which to explore, connect generations and open new possibilities for the symphonic experience.
