Pere Vicalet (Alicante, 1987) is a conductor, composer and digital artist. His work brings the symphonic repertoire together with electronics, code and live visuals to open concert music to new audiences. “The baton of the future” was how the Spanish press introduced him in 2017, after his debut at the Palau de les Arts in València conducting the premiere of the opera with electronics La Mare dels Peixos and receiving the Young Talent in Culture Award.
His career began with the Juan Bautista Comes Choral Composition Prize (2008), the Valencia Crea Award (2010), the Las Naves artist residency (2012) and the Composition Graduation Award. He was principal guest conductor of the Col Legno ensemble (2013-2017), with more than twenty premieres, and has led Vertex since its foundation, an ensemble devoted to multidisciplinary work combining theatre, video and acoustic and electronic music. He furthered his conducting studies at the op. 23 Academy with Miguel Romea and Andrés Salado.
He has conducted more than fifty ensembles as principal or guest conductor. He was principal conductor of the FSMCV Youth Band —the youngest ever appointed— and has conducted, among others, the FSMCV Orchestra and Band, the Castellón Municipal Band, the Donau Symphony Orchestra and the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra. In 2019 he was invited to conduct the Georgian Youth Orchestra at the Music International Summer Academy (Tbilisi), the same year he made his debut with the Orquesta Filarmónica del Café (Colombia), where he has been associate conductor since 2025, conducting Beethoven’s Ninth, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. In 2026 he guest-conducted for the 20th anniversary of the Diputació de Tarragona conservatoires, at the LLUM Festival in Llíria and with the CSM Badajoz Wind Band.
As a composer he writes for orchestra, wind band, ensemble and electronics. Peak in Tanz, for orchestra, DJ and solo percussion, was premiered by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra in 2022. L’Arbre Blanc was named among the most relevant band works of the decade and was the set piece of the Honour Section at the València International Band Contest in 2024. He composed and conducted Guerrer de la Valltorta for the FSMCV 50th anniversary, performed by more than 5,000 musicians. Recent works include Remors de multituds and a commission from the Institut Valencià de Cultura for X-Ensems.
As a digital artist he builds systems that turn gesture into light, video and sound. After the Max Expo’74 in New York he developed conducting-pedagogy tools such as Metroscore and Relpulse, premiered the live-coding piece #Noisound at Rafel Festival and IVAM, took part in E-@rts Hip Hop (Rafel Festival and Ensemble d’Arts), shortlisted for the 2021 Max Awards, and in 2026 presented Resonàncies Visuals, commissioned by the Mostra Sonora de Sueca. In 2023 he received the Miguel Hernández Alicante Culture Award for music innovation.
He is Professor of Music Technology at the Conservatori Superior de Música de València, where he teaches Sonology, and artistic director of GATA’M Fest. He has also contributed to the Valencian public radio À Punt on De Banda a Banda. Through Vicaletors he shares web tools, workshops and talks on conducting, music technology and AI applied to music.
